Born on 14 December 1503 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Michel de Nostredame grew up in a family of physicians and astrologers. Introduced from childhood to mathematics, Hebrew, and astrology by his grandfathers, he became one of the most singular minds of the Renaissance.
A renowned physician who fought the Great Plague, author of the famous Centuries published in 1555, he was summoned to the French court by Catherine de' Medici. His enigmatic quatrains, blending Old French, Latin and Greek, have been interpreted for five centuries.
